How is cannabidiol different from marijuana?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

What is the difference between all the CBD oils out there?

There are various methods for extracting the CBD from the plant, and here is where things get murky.

It is extremely important to understand the various CBD extraction methods as they have a major impact on the quality of the end product; not to mention your health. We don’t recommend utilizing the solvent method because not only is it dangerous to make, it is also more likely to cause health problems. The cost of CO2 supercritical extraction means it is not possible for 99.9% of manufacturers although it is an excellent, safe and efficient method.

We only supply products that use the CO2 extraction method and can provide batch certificates as proof of quality and measurements of THC and CBD contents.

The CO2 Cannabis Extraction Method

This form of CBD extraction is actually divided into supercritical, subcritical and ‘mid-critical’ categories but supercritical is by far the most commonly used. In fact, it is the most regularly used extraction method of all because it is safe and provides a pure end product.

In simple terms, CO2 cannabis extraction uses pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) to pull CBD (and other phytochemicals) from the plant. CO2 acts like a solvent at certain temperatures and pressures but possesses none of the dangers. While it is safe and effective, it also involves extremely expensive equipment. The rather sophisticated machines used for the purpose work to freeze the CO2 gas and compress it into a supercritical cold liquid state.

CO2 typically behaves like a gas at standard pressure and temperature, and is easily changed to a solid while in this state; the solid version of the gas is known as ‘dry ice.’ Using the aforementioned equipment in a lab, you can turn CO2 gas into a liquid by ensuring the temperature drops below -69 degrees Fahrenheit while increasing the pressure to over 75 pounds per square inch (psi). At this stage, you have your starting point for CO2 Cannabis extraction.

Once you have the liquid CO2, the next step is to increase the temperature and pressure past the point where the liquid becomes ‘supercritical.’ This term means the CO2 is now capable of adopting properties halfway between a gas and liquid simultaneously. Effectively, the supercritical CO2 is capable of filling a container (like gas) while also maintaining density (like a liquid). When CO2 is in its supercritical state, it is ideal for chemical extraction because it won’t cause the denaturing or damage that would make it unfit for human consumption.

The Solvent Extraction Method

This is what you might get from your local “Dealer” and due to its non regulated and cheap extraction methods and possible health risks we will not stock any products that use this method. We urge you to take care when purchasing from non reputable suppliers, your wallet might survive but you might not.

Ethanol, low-grade alcohol, and butane are among the most common substances used in Solvent Extraction. Although ethanol extracts the full range of cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant which makes the end product safe for consumption, it also extracts chlorophyll which may lead to some unpleasant side effects. You can remove the chlorophyll by filtering the extract, but you significantly reduce the oil’s potency. Butane offers a stronger oil than ethanol, but it is more likely to contain solvents which could irritate the lungs.

Who are we?

We are a division of Conpac Pty Ltd established in 2011, Conpac is an importer and distributor of various international brands. In other words we are the CBD retail arm of Conpac. But wait there’s more. recently we have become the exclusive distributors for SIBANAC™ CBD Products in South Africa, Interested? why not give us a shout.

The directors of Conpac have all been touched by personal medical issues through family or close friends, and this is where the drive for the search of an affordable high quality CBD product was born. “There are so many people in need of good quality  CBD products – products that can help them with pain, anxiety and other ailments on so many levels and on a day to day basis which would thereby improve their health and quality of life, but due to high prices they are forced to buy untested and sometimes unsafe products from their local dealer. This just makes the situation worse.”

Best CBD Oil SOuth Africa was born through this thought process, and we have high hopes for this venture. ” The products are high quality, tested and available at affordable prices. More hopes for  bestcbdoilsa.com include the ability to create Joint Ventures with other manufacturers to supply products at below cost / free to financially strapped patients where the products can really be life changing”
